STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE ONLINE LEARNING

It is no doubt that online learning is super convenient and easier than the on-campus or physical method of learning. It is very important to learn the basic tips and strategies that makes online learning less challenging and more rewarding so as to make the best of the entire online learning experience.

Online learning is a method of education whereby students learn in a fully virtual environment. First introduced in the 1990s with the creation of the internet and utilized in distance learning, online learning (also called e-learning) is most prevalent in higher education, enabling students from different geographical areas to engage with an academic institution and other students online and learn flexibly, at their own pace, while working towards a degree or certificate.

Online learning refers to an internet-based learning environment that can connect students of diverse backgrounds who boast different perspectives. A higher education institution will use a learning management system, or LMS, to facilitate online learning, which can take the form of asynchronous learning (where students are not required to be online at the same time, and utilize discussion threads and e-mails to complete coursework) or synchronous learning (where students must be online at the same time).

In this article, you will learn some strategies for effective online learning

Strategies for effective online learning:

1.Have Self Discipline:
Just because you are not physically present in an online class with your online tutor and classmates doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take your work and classes seriously. Discipline yourself to be time conscious, learn basic time management skills, pay proper attention during online lectures and relate well and interact with other students. Cultivate the habit of always submitting your assignments and course work on or before the due date. Be diligent and dedicated to your work and always speak up to ask questions if there’s anything you don’t understand in your online learning class.

2. Be inquisitive:
Do not be afraid to ask questions. Some online mode of learning or virtual classes could become tiring and cumbersome that is why it is very important to stay connected and ask for guidance or clarification on topics or courses that might be difficult for you to understand. This will strengthen the relationship between you and your tutors and even help other students to also get clarity in case they have the same question in mind.

3.Be Open Minded:
Restricting yourself to only a few notes and textbooks will hinder your productivity and workflow. Be ready to read as many books and materials as possible and share your opinions, thoughts and ideas with your colleagues, listen to their ideas and be open to learn more or take corrections whenever you make a mistake. Do not hesitate to attend online group discussions and meetings so as to gain and share more knowledge.

4.Be Accountable:
Accountability improves your sense of responsibility and allows you to own up to your own mistakes.
We all learn in different ways and it is very important to understand how well and fast you can grasp a newly introduced topic and be ready to encourage yourself to study well enough to understand it properly. Fix deadlines for yourself and be ready to hold yourself accountable in case you do not meet up with it. Challenge yourself to be better and do better. Avoid having a nonchalant attitude towards your online course work because it will have a negative effect on the progress of your online learning.

5. Have a Schedule:
For any form of virtual or online learning, the importance of having a schedule or a routine cannot be overemphasized since it is very easy for other activities to get in the way of your online learning due to its flexibility. Having a schedule gives room for commitment and it allows you to stick to your online work and get it done in its due time without getting distracted by other activities.
